Mycena strobilinoides Pk. Cap 1-2cm across, very conical when young, becoming bell-shaped, often with a scalloped margin that flares in age; deep reddish orange fading to yellow; smooth, moist surface, with striate margin becoming grooved in maturity. Gills ascending adnate, subdistant, narrow; yellow to pinky-orange with scarlet edges. Stem 30-40 x I-2mm; orange-yellow all over; covered with minute hairs toward apex, becoming smooth except at base, which is covered with long, coarse, orange fibers. Flesh thin, pliant; yellow. Odor not distinctive. Taste not distinctive. Spores ellipsoid, amyloid, 7-9 x 4-5µ. Deposit white. Habitat densely clustered on conifer needles, especially pine. Common in mountainous areas of northwest North America, rare in eastern North America. Season August-November. Edibility not known -avoid. |
